The homeowners had a single-car driveway and a gravel strip where two work trucks parked. We broke out the gravel, re-compacted the base and poured a 5-inch reinforced extension that runs the full length of the house and ties into the garage apron with epoxied dowels.
Joint lines were laid out to line up with the existing driveway so the old and new concrete read as one slab. The extension slopes toward the street at 1.5 percent so sprinkler water runs off instead of toward the stucco.
The pour was scheduled at 5:30 AM in late August; the crew used an evaporation retarder and saw-cut the joints the same afternoon.
